Happy that the sunshine is officially out!

We chatted about “coming out” as a person who stutters and how terrifying that can be even if people already know that you stutter. One member described practicing stuttering strategies as “bucking a bronco.”  Another member joked that he says “amen” in his head as affirmation whenever he successfully voluntary stutters. We also talked about how it can be frustrating when voluntary stutters turn into real stutters.

We brainstormed ideas for having a “Porky the Pig” float for a boat parade this summer, and wondered how to pull off the idea without potentially offending. We settled that the best focus would be to emphasize that it’s ok to stutter and to add fun and engaging elements (like a megaphone and multiple kayaks following the boat as “repetitions”). What are your thoughts?

Note that we won’t have another group this month, so see you on June 2nd!
