Briana

This month’s spotlight of the month honors Briana Pipkin!

Briana is a 24 year old PWS born right here in ‘The Lone Star State’. She graduated from Lamar University in 2013 with a degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Briana loves all things spooky; including movies and books and can even recite several scary movies verbatim. Among her many talents, she enjoys acting and writing in her spare time. In high school, she had one of her short plays produced and earned a writing scholarship to study writing in New York. Professionally, Briana works at a small call center as a phone representative.

In the Spring of 2013, Briana found the National Stuttering Association by googling ‘stuttering’ on the internet. She was hooked after her first meeting and started attending regularly to meet other people who stutter. That same year, she attended her first NSA conference in Scottsdale, Arizona. “I had been having a lot of difficulties with my speech at the time”, Briana says. “I had been a covert stutterer since the age of 13 and it seemed like it was becoming harder to hide.” Since joining the NSA, she has learned that it is okay to stutter. She feels empowered with the organization by her side. “The NSA really boosted my confidence and I have felt much better about myself since.” Her favorite part about the NSA is the people she has met.
