This month’s Spotlight honors Eric Maye!

Eric was born on March 7, 1977 in Los Angeles, California.  As a child, he enjoyed spending time with family, riding dirt bikes, traveling, playing video games, writing poetry and short stories, and collecting comic book and basketball player cards. When Eric entered his junior year in high school, he found his love for playing organized basketball and didn’t know that it would help him get a college scholarship to attend Cal. State San Bernardino and then lead him to playing professionally for international and national teams for a span of 10 years. He played in various places such as Europe, Philippines, South America, and for leagues such as the IBL, ABA and a brief tryout for the San Antonio Spurs. He has his BS degree in Communication, a degree in Sports Management, and is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a personal trainer, sports nutrition specialist, senior fitness specialist, and youth fitness specialist. In 2011, Eric met his wife Liz and they have two beautiful, intelligent and healthy children, Kaiya and Marcus. The latest addition to Eric’s family is Manny, the family dog.  Now at 40 years of age, Eric still enjoys quality time with his family and friends in addition to volunteering, tasting new foods and building on the relationship between him and his Lord and Personal Savior. A few cool facts about Eric is that he has done background work in various movies, appeared on a T.V. show that displayed him using the Speech Easy (an anti-stuttering device), and he played the character “TNT” for the Xbox video game “Street Hoops”.

In 2016 Eric relocated from Ohio to Texas and being new to the state, Eric wanted to find a place to meet new people who he could build strong relationships and friendships with, so he contacted the NSA Dallas to see about becoming a member… and the rest is history. Life changed in a special way because Eric was able to openly communicate with individuals that stuttered in a safe non-judgmental environment. He was also able to attend various events and participate on panel discussions which he says opened a new self confidence. Eric has learned from hearing individual stories that every person is special in their own way and he firmly believes that nothing can stop a individual from a goal, as long as they place God first and put their mind to it.

Next time you see Eric ask him to help you reach your fitness goals!
