Joseph Diaz!

Joseph is a local–born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He has a brother and sister, who are both married, and has a total of four nieces, two nephews, two grand nieces, and two grand nephews whom he loves dearly. Joseph works doing building maintenance at Notre Dame School in Uptown Dallas, a school for kids with Down Syndrome. “It’s a very rewarding place to work”, he says. Joseph is very consistent with his hobbies, being a member of the NSA for 25 years, and a member of Toastmasters for 20 years. He also takes his workouts seriously, calling it “his Fountain of Youth”, and part of his life long quest to to become the best person he can be.

Joseph started taking speech therapy at the Callier Center of Communication Disorders in the late 1980’s, and found out about a local support group for people who stutter shortly after. His long journey with the NSA took him from sitting in the back of the room for meetings to becoming a two time Chapter Leader, a member of the NSA Board of Director’s, a 25 time Annual Conference attendee, and 10 time Texas Speech and Hearing Annual Convention representative for the Dallas Chapter (most of those things along with long time pal, Russ Hicks). “Being a life-long member, I know people who happen to stutter all around the world. I can knock on anyone’s door around the world and I know they would let me in.”, he says— that’s the power of the NSA!

“A personal thanks to Lee Reeves and Russ Hicks. Who were, from day one, leaders that I wanted to walk beside with.”

The next time you see Joseph, ask him about the power of the NSA and what it means to him!
