Thanks to everyone who came out on Monday night! We had about 18 people who stutter, loved ones and SLPs together in Brooklyn to talk all things stuttering. One of the original NSA Brooklyn members Yitzi came back with his beautiful wife after being away for years in Israel! It is wonderful that we can all watch each other grow and change on this journey.

Because I have announcements to share and want to avoid writing a 13 paragraph essay, I’ll share just one moment from Monday. One of our members shared a recent experience of approaching a family friend who stutters and opening up a conversation about it after years of avoiding doing so. She was surprised that this friend and his family reacted with such gratitude and hunger for information once she opened that door. After putting in so much emotional work to let go of shame and free up her voice over the past year, she realized that she can be a role model for others a bit further back on the road. Other members piped in with their experiences of being deeply impacted by observing the brave behavior of other people who stutter. Bottom line, we are all powerful and the world is watching how we live our lives and face our challenges. It is nice to think about our community in this way. A group of people that hold each other up via friendship and example. No pressure 😉

A few announcements:

  • We are looking for short “testimonies” (3-4 sentences) about your experience with the NSA support group. Its scary to come to these things for the first time, and we really think that if people could read your voices and stories on our website, it would be a big help. Send it to us in an email if you’re moved to do so! It will be anonymous
  • Don’t miss the first NYC Stutters social event on May 3rd in Central Park! Info & RSVP here.
  • Like the NYC NSA Facebook page and check for events and chapter meetings all over the city!

Until May!
