Fantastic turnout for group!

One member asked if anyone has read Katherine Preston’s book about her stuttering: Out with ItWe’ve got one copy we can share amongst members and wondered if a stuttering library is in order? She’s written a bunch of interesting articles and has a blog too. Thinking of making a road trip to SUNY Plattsburgh if she visits there this spring!

We’re making plans for a group outing to watch The Imitation Game about Alan Turing, a person who stuttered, at the Roxy next week…stay tuned on our new chapter FB Page!

One member talked about feeling like he “let the stuttering community down” when someone made fun of stuttering after he mentioned his career plan to be a SLP who works with people who stutter. Other members told similar stories and suggested that it can be hard to say “the right thing” in the moment, and it’s a good opportunity to have an open discussion with that person to help them learn about stuttering (and what responses are hurtful).

There are a couple of research projects going on for adults who stutter, and interested members can send a note to burlingtonstutters@gmail.com for more details and to link up with the researchers.
