What a turnout!  There were 12 of us last night, and we had some leftover pizza from the last day of the Amigos therapy (as part of stuttering class). The Amigos were really motivated by their energetic student teams this semester, and the team had some honest and emotional discussions about stuttering that carried over to support group.

Since there was a lot of jostling around of chairs and coming in and out during introductions, we talked about how some folks find that their stuttering goes away when they yell (or when talking in a crowded/noisy environment). Some other members said that those speaking situations are particularly challenging, since there are so many distractions and added vocal tension to be heard.

We discussed favorite tv shows, and a member mentioned they had seen a Doonesbury comic strip that weekend about a man who stuttered as a result of PTSD. We then talked about how parents may feel pressure or guilt because of their children’s stuttering, and some members shared anecdotes about their own childhoods which were funny and emotional.

Excellent group, and see everyone again on April 7th!
