Last night the Dallas Chapter of the NSA got together for our November meeting–the last of 2018!– and here’s a quick recap of what happened.

With 9 people in attendance (we think the rest was still having a post-Thankgiving food coma) we got to it, and with 2 new members in attendance–welcome Devon and Angela!–introductions got us to a good start. We heard about everybody’s Thanksgiving celebrations, of travels and family traditions, and we all got talking.

Our theme of the month was “Gratitude” but we didn’t get to it until late in our meeting, as everybody seemed eager to share and talk about a variety of topics. Before that we talked about languages, traditions, travels, music, “what to do with your life”, football, and everything in between. It was a nice of free-flowing conversation without a moment of silence, which can be considered a success in itself.

Finally, when the night was coming to an end we talked about gratitude and ways to cultivate it in our lives. One of the suggested activities was to start a “Gratitude Journal”, and one of our members talked about her experiences with one, saying that writing about things she was grateful every morning was “the perfect way to start the day with the right foot”.

On that note, we all did a small exercise. One a small card everybody had to write:One person you are thankful forOne place you are thankful forOne food you are thankful forOne thing you are thankful forOne other miscellaneous thing you are thankful for,And then we shared with the group.

Moms, brothers, cats, dogs, Colorado, Lake Tahoe, pizza, family, Jesus, late-night Thai food, music… those were some of the things people wrote down, and we discovered that when you are actively looking for things to be grateful, you will find reasons to be, and THAT’S the secret behind this exercise.

With that we got to the end of our evening and the last official meeting of 2018. We are fortunate and thankful to be part of this group and looking forward to another great year with our NSA family.
