Malcolm is a 58 year old born in Germany into a military family. One of five children, he is the youngest of four boys, but he is not the youngest, his twin sister is. Malcolm began stuttering as a young teen and was sent to the school speech therapist while attending the 8th grade in Burkburnett, TX. It pretty much was a crash and burn attempt to “fix” him, he remembers. Shortly after turning 18, Malcolm married his Jr. High school sweetheart, which derailed his college career. Their new family quickly grew as they had 3 children by the time Malcolm was 22. To support his family, and being an entrepreneur at heart, Malcolm started a successful Spa and Hot Tub company. Malcolm became a widower 6 years ago, but a year later remarried, and settled in Rockwall, TX. After 35 years in the Spa industry and years of sun exposure, Malcolm got skin cancer, changing his priorities once again. He then sold his business, beat cancer, and now works out of the sun for a manufacturing company in Garland. Malcolm is a deacon in his church, facilitates a men’s study group, and enjoys doing ministry projects or bicycle riding with his new bride. Malcolm and Kim have 5 grandsons and enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Malcolm attended a leadership club in the mid-80’s and “conquered” his stuttering, but years later, after a near fatal car accident (where he even had to be cut out of the pick-up truck with the jaws of life!), his stuttering returned.

After 30+ years of working through the daily frustrations of stuttering, and with a gift from his wife, Kim, Malcolm went to see Tricia Krauss-Lehrman, an SLP in Dallas, and they have been working together for about 6 months now. He attended the last two meetings and is encouraged by what he sees and hears from this group of individuals who happen to have something in common. He is looking forward to building relationships, meeting everyone in the group and gleaning information that will help him on his journey as a stutterer.
